We had less than 2 and a half months to plan, organise and execute a dream wedding on a budget. At the same time, we had to pack or sell our worldly belongings (home, car & contents) and not to mention resigning, training our successors and providing handovers at our place of employment. With one of use working permanently in Mozambique, we were going to need help.
A close and special friend of ours introduced us to Carla at Pretty Different Events (PDE) and we immediately knew it was going to be a great fit. PDE didn’t realise it at the time, but we had no idea what our dream wedding should look like. Colourwise, we knew we loved a certain range of blue hues, silver and white. Everything should be kept clean and minimalistic. We had a set outdoor venue, albeit a bit small, but it had to work. The rest was up to PDE and not once did they bat an eyelid. They provided options, suggestions and even some solid personal advice.
Forward to 5 days before the wedding. Horror struck as the entire wedding venue (also providing the catering) burned down in the early morning hours. The venue had no alternative options or means of catering. We were stuck and felt completely numb. We had friends and family calling everybody and anybody they could, but 5 days was a complete stretch. This also meant several big priced items, such as the tent, had to be cancelled, which was not an easy task for PDE. Carla and PDE made every effort and even called in a professional favour to ensure our day would realise. Not only did they manage to get a venue, but it turned out to be a dream venue, which under normal circumstances was completely out of our budget. The venue, Marlenique, managed and co-owned by chefs, also provided amazing food. PDE made it work and the venue was more than willing to accommodate us in this unfortunate event. Due to Carla and PDEs’ efforts we had a slight monetary loss, but it was insignificant compared to the big what if…
From start to finish, PDE only expected us to remain calm and enjoy the challenge. Honestly, they were quite relentless in the fight for our happiness. PDE went over and beyond which was expected and we will always be eternally grateful. If you need just a little bit of help or even a complete package, we recommend PDE. Keep in mind they are not too bad in disaster management either.
Our big day went off without a hitch and was more than just a success, it was an experience we will never forget. We even awarded Carla with a “Certificate Of Excellence: 101 When Your Venue Burns Down”. Our day would never have happened if it was not for Carla and PDE.
